Why to Keep Your Children Away From the TV
Too many parents these days use their TV set as a baby minder. If they want to get on with stuff around the house they just stick them in front of it. It does the trick as the sound, colors and movement keep young children amused for hours.
Now this may seem harmless but in the long run there could be problems. Children should have their TV limited from a young age.
A little known yet proven fact is that kids who spend hours in front of the TV have shortened attention spans for other things, which in the future can have a detrimental affect on their grades and also their overall behavior.
Watching the TV for hours on ends doesn't encourage any kind of brain activity, they are just given the information on a plate which means they don't have to think, so their attention span is shortened. Too much TV makes kids struggle to concentrate in their studies.
So with their short attention spans and inability to study well, their grades are obviously affected. It has been proved in studies that those kids who are in front of a TV for hours a day are less successful academically. They don't comprehend things well and can't express their thoughts
A child's brain is like a sponge and they take in everything that they see on TV. As most kids have a TV in their room, it's impossible for you to monitor everything that your kid is watching.
The line between fantasy and reality becomes very blurred for some kids and that's when the serious problems starts. Even cartoons have guns and violence in them, so they think it must be okay. They often go to school and act out what they have seem the previous evening, and many parents have received a call to say their kid is in the emergency room after being hit with a chair by a classmate.
So limiting their TV time isn't a punishment; you are merely being a responsible parent. They will be better behaved and smarter, so it's well worth it in the long run.
