Here's what you need to go and do RIGHT NOW....so that you can get this into place in your life. Get a small spiral notebook and start keeping it with you throughout the day. Keep one at work, one in your car, and one at home. Then you need to keep track of your negative thoughts throughout the day by writing them down when you catch yourself thinking negatively. Do this for at least a week.
Negative thoughts have a tendency to creep into our minds slowly, and they are a habitual way of thinking. You might be getting dressed in the morning and think to yourself "I look fat in this" or you might be saying to yourself "I can't get this new job, I'm not that smart". As soon as you recognize any thought that makes you feel bad you need to write it down in your spiral. Remembering them is not enough because writing your negative thoughts puts them on paper so you can then create replacement thoughts.
Positive replacement thoughts are the key to overcoming anxiety or panic attacks. What you need to do now is look over the list of negative thoughts you have been keeping track of and replace each of those thoughts with a positive statement.
It will look something like this...
- NEG: "I just can't do it, what will they think of me?"
- POS: "I'm am calm, positive, and very capable."
