Mini notebook computers are becoming extremely popular recently including among schools and in classrooms. And for good reason. They offer maximum functionality, and computing power in an extremely small unit size.
Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for a mini notebook computer:
They Are Increasingly Affordable
Compared to the standard computer, mini notebooks are comparatively inexpensive. This is presumably because due to being so small, production costs are much less, hence the lower price. Amid the current economic climate, this is making them extremely popular, especially among children and teenagers. Even now they are much smaller in size, they don't sacrifice that much in functionality and power.
They have fast hard drives, top-of-the-line processors, regular sized keyboards (some models have reduced size keyboards but many are standard sized), and many of the other technologies widely used with standard notebooks. As such, households with less financial means can purchase them still.
Reduced Screen Size
Most models include screen sizes from 9 to 12 inches long diagonally. The majority are in the 10 inch range, which is a bit too small for the average user, however many models are available in 10 to 13.3 inch screens. The MacBook air has a 13 inch screen with a super thin chassis, however it may not be considered in the mini notebook category. It's probably considered a compact computer. However one benefit of a smaller screen is increased portability, so this adds to their appeal by many industry professionals.
Not a Standard Laptop Replacement
Many notebook computers should not be considered a replacement for standard 15 to 17 inch screen laptop with much more screen real estate and computing power. They should simply be used as a supplement, if not a more portable travel friendly computer. Many manufacturers are still struggling significantly to pack industry standard power and functionality into such small packages. The leaders in the mini notebook category are: Asus, Hewlett-Packard, Apple, Toshiba, Compaq and a few other less known players.
If you purchase a mini laptop computer be sure to be conscious of potential theft. Unfortunately, theft is one of the common side effects of owning one of these systems. We suggest buying any hip pack, and a cable lock to reduce the likelihood of your machine being stolen.
