We all know high blood pressure is bad. It is a major cause of strokes, heart attacks, congestive heart failure, kidney failure and a host of other conditions we would all like to avoid. I have high blood pressure, diagnosed by my family doctor on a routine visit. I had no warning and no symptoms.
I went through the prescribed drugs and lifestyle changes and they both helped - a little. My doctor pointed out how I now was only at risk for a "little" stroke or a "small" heart attack. My doctor is a funny guy.
So I did what any educated, mature patient would do. I panicked! I was to young to die of old people's diseases like a heart attack or a stroke. It was then I learned I had what is known as essential hypertension, which means they don't really know what causes it and anyone can get it even children.
The drugs worked okay. The lifestyle changes would take a while but I was on the right track. What I was looking for was a natural, as in non-drug way to bring down the spikes I still had in my blood pressure, and do it NOW.
I searched the Internet for help and came across a technique that involved hand squeeze exercises that for some reason brought down blood pressure. The problem was they wanted a bucket of cash for a hand squeezing device and instructions. Enter the Cheap Hand Squeezer Blood Pressure Lowering Device! I looked around in my garage and found my pair of hand squeezers; you know the ones that build up your "killer ninja" handgrip strength. You can buy these at Walmart for under ten bucks. I began to experiment and what I found out was somewhat amazing.
The Technique - I would squeeze 30 times with both hands at the same time and then rest for 20 seconds and then do another set of 30 squeezes. On the last squeeze in each set you squeeze as hard as you can for about 3 or 4 seconds and hold it. You do a total of at least 4 sets and then wait at least a minute and take your blood pressure. I use a Walmart bought digital Omron blood pressure machine for this.
The Result - Each time I tried this, usually after I noticed a spike in my blood pressure, I was able to reduce both systolic and diastolic pressure by at least 10 points! The effect does not last a long time but you can do this over and over to get you through a "spike". I did notice that the more often you do the technique the longer the effect seems to last.
I don't really know why this occurs, but it does. I had read that the rhythmic contractions of your arm muscles cause nitric oxide to be released in your blood stream but who knows? I just know it works for me.
Remember - you are the only one who is able to keep track of your high blood pressure problem and in the long run it is your diligence that will cure it, or at least control it.
Don't be a statistic. Watch your pressure and give this inexpensive and effective technique a try.
